Societas honestae,
limbus pannuceus
“Ragged fringe of decent society”
Heritage
Members meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Salisbury Hotel, 118 Percival Rd, Stanmore. Meals are available and the meeting commences at 8pm.
The club holds regular rides, ranging from day rides and mid-week runs to weekends away. Ride destinations are many and varied, to maximise participation from country and city members alike.
Other events include track days, ‘social sips’, technical sessions, auction days and the annual Christmas party.
The club’s most important fixture is the Ragged Fringe Rally, which we host on the second weekend in September every year. It is open to members and non-members alike.
The club also organises group rides to rallies hosted by other Moto Guzzi clubs, such as the Ruptured Budgie Rally (Moto Guzzi Club of Queensland) and the Spaghetti Rally (Moto Guzzi Club of Victoria).
Our website and Facebook page keeps members informed of what’s on, along with email updates and reminders.
Club motto
“Ragged fringe of decent society” originated from a quote printed in a 1980s issue of Two Wheels magazine, which paraphrased Dante’s Inferno in reference to Moto Guzzi club members:
“Guzzi clubs of Australia are inhabited by the ragged fringe of decent society, so be prepared to abandon hope all ye who enter”
The club decided to adopt the Latin “Societas Honestae Limbus Pannuceus” as its official motto and that of the club’s annual Ragged Fringe Rally.
Today
Australia’s original Moto Guzzi club, the Moto Guzzi Club NSW held its first official meeting in February 1980. Inaugural members met by a waterhole on a small property at Bucketty, following the club’s first ride.
A working committee was duly elected and the club’s first Annual General Meeting took place on 20 May 1980 at the Ashfield RSL Youth Club Hall. A formal constitution was adopted by the 29 founding members, some of whom remain members of the club today.
Moto Guzzi Club NSW has an informal, friendly atmosphere. As followers of this noble marque of Italian motorcycle, our members are noted for their mutual support when it comes to technical or other idiosyncrasies of the breed.
